Our story

From an Empty Shop to a Place of Wonder

We were originally promised space at Munich Airport, but TUM withdrew its commitment at the last minute due to its own needs. With support from Sparkasse Freising-Moosburg, we quickly found a former Edeka shop in downtown Freising and transformed it into a science center. Bavaria has lacked a major science center of this kind, and we aim to fill that gap in the medium term.

curiocity was founded by Kim Ludwig-Petsch and Annika Strömmer, who jointly serve as managing directors of the nonprofit science center in Freising, supported by a large team of volunteers.

Our vision

The City of Curiosity

We are creating a place where learning becomes an experience—a place where families spend time together, school classes explore, researchers explain, companies inspire, and ideas grow. A place where people can get to grips with the world, quite literally.

  • Interactive exhibitions to touch and explore
  • Workshops for schools, families, and businesses
  • Creative and maker spaces for hands-on tinkering
  • Programs for schools, families, researchers, and businesses

We are in the midst of building curiocity and actively looking for a suitable permanent location. Until that becomes a reality, curiocity grows every day through events, partnerships, workshops, and every person whose curiosity we spark.

Our values

What We Stand For

Hands-on is a must

Nothing here is just for looking at. Every exhibit is designed to be tried out; understanding comes from doing, not just watching.

Questions are where it begins

There are no stupid questions, only answers waiting to be discovered. We celebrate curiosity as much as knowledge, regardless of prior experience.

Open to everyone

Discounts, low barriers to entry, and programs for every age: science should exclude no one.

Honest about our journey

We’re a pop-up on the way to something bigger, and we’re open about where we stand—even when not everything is finished yet.

Our mission

Experience Knowledge. Spark Curiosity. Shape the Future.

curiocity is a place where science comes to life—currently on the move and, in the future, in a permanent location. We create learning spaces where people of all ages can not only find answers but, above all, ask questions. Because science always begins with “Why?” Our mission is built on three core principles:

Science you can touch

We believe in learning through trying, touching, listening, building, discarding, and rethinking. Our programs create memorable, direct experiences through experiments, movement, interaction, and shared moments of wonder.

Curiosity drives learning

Curiosity is the strongest driver of lasting learning. We create environments where it has room to grow, free from performance pressure, full of creative inspiration, and open to individual ideas.

Science for a strong, open society

A science center is more than a place to learn: it’s a space for exchange and for understanding our world together. We want to empower people to think critically, solve problems creatively, and take responsibility.
