Square Puzzle
How many squares fit together perfectly?
Fit all the squares of different sizes into the frame without leaving gaps. This puzzle demonstrates a famous mathematical dissection into squares of different sizes.
The Science Behind It
This is what is known as a perfect rectangle. It is made entirely of squares of different sizes, with no overlaps or gaps. Finding such a dissection is surprisingly difficult because the squares’ sizes must fit together exactly. Each side length depends on the others. The example shown here is among the smallest known solutions and was discovered in 1925 by Polish mathematician Zbigniew Morón. Such dissections show how closely geometry and numbers are connected, and how seemingly simple shapes can conceal complex mathematical structures.
